Innovation Pattern Heterogeneity: Data-Driven Retrieval of Firms’ Approaches to Innovation

According to a strong and diversified theoretical framework, innovation is one of the usual suspects in defining differences firm performance. Understanding diversity that exists within population innovative firms essential for developing appropriate policies. Our study explored patterns among Norwegian included 2018 Community Innovation Survey (CIS2018). By applying factor analysis wide array survey variables large sample firms, we identified eleven typical approaches innovation, which connect inputs outputs at level. A main outcome our novel fine-grained view as multifaceted concept. research path helps us find commonalities behavior across industries and, consequence, better isolate those differentiate from another. We also show relation between size, on hand, each scores associated other thus uncovering ways small may survive sectors dominated by firms.
